About Us
About Quayside Medical Practice
A dedicated NHS GP practice serving the Failsworth community with compassionate, high-quality care.
Who We Are
We are a traditional family GP surgery with a modern twist. We provide the standard care every practice delivers, but we also offer better and more flexible online services and help.
We recruit and provide other services and clinicians offering joint injections so our patients get faster access to care that is also local. We are constantly innovating to make access to care easier and to give our patients better and more local care.
We provide a website that helps people find other services and how to self-help, and we recruit allied healthcare professionals to give our patients the best possible care.
Our Mission
We will keep the patient at the heart of everything we do by providing outstanding care and support to every patient, every time.
Our Values
Compassionate Care
We treat every patient as an individual, with dignity, respect, and empathy at the heart of everything we do.
Accessible Services
We work hard to make our services as accessible as possible, offering a range of ways to contact us and book appointments.
High-Quality Care
Our clinical team is committed to delivering evidence-based, high-quality healthcare to all our patients.
Community Focus
We are proud to be part of the Failsworth community and are dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of our local population.

GP Partners
A GP partner is responsible for the practice and employs all staff to deliver services. Upon registration, you will be allocated to a GP as your named GP. You have the right to choose this yourself or change this if you wish. However, you can see any GP or other healthcare professional for your needs.

Catchment Areas
General practices traditionally operate within a defined catchment area. These areas help practices plan services, provide home visits where needed, and ensure patients can access timely care from a local GP team.
Our catchment area is shown on the map below and reflects the area where we routinely provide home visiting services and community-based care.
Can I Register If I Live Outside the Catchment Area?
Yes. Patients increasingly want the flexibility to access healthcare in a way that fits around their daily lives. You may wish to register with a practice that is closer to your workplace, your children's school, a family member who supports you, or another location that is more convenient than the area where you live.
Being outside our catchment area does not automatically prevent you from registering. We welcome registration enquiries from patients both within and outside the boundary shown on the map.
Out-of-Area Registration
Under NHS regulations, practices can choose to accept patients who live outside their traditional catchment area. This is known as an out-of-area registration.
If you live outside our catchment area and wish to register, we will consider your application in line with our registration policy and our ability to provide safe and effective care.
Please note that patients registered under out-of-area arrangements may not be eligible for home visits from the practice. If you require urgent care at home, this may instead be arranged through services closer to where you live.
Practice Area, Finding Us & Accessibility
We provide care for people in our local area, but we also allow registration for people out of area to allow everyone the free choice of choosing their GP surgery. Out-of-area forms are required for patients living outside our practice area.
Our postcode is M35 0AD. We are based upstairs in the Keppel Building, which is opposite the big Tesco. There is free parking out front with disabled spaces. Inside the building there is a lift if needed.
Getting here by public transport
The closest tram stop is Failsworth — we are just a 5-minute walk away. There are also regular buses that stop along Oldham Road.
When you arrive
When inside the Keppel Building, go to the first floor via stairs or lift and follow the signs. Please check in at the Quayside HUB. There is a self sign-in screen in the waiting area. Once signed in, please read the instructions for which waiting area to sit in — we have three waiting areas.
Accessibility
We have facilities for people with hearing difficulties (hearing loop), low reception access points for people in wheelchairs, and disabled-friendly toilet facilities.
Consent
Consent is an important part of our work at Quayside and we take it very seriously. There are different types of consent that we use:
Voluntary
The decision to consent or not to consent to treatment must be made by the person, and must not be influenced by pressure from medical staff, friends or family.
Informed
The person must be given all of the information about what the treatment involves, including the benefits and risks, whether there are reasonable alternative treatments, and what will happen if treatment does not go ahead.
Capacity
The person must be capable of giving consent, which means they understand the information given to them and can use it to make an informed decision.
Where patients have capacity, their treatment wishes are respected. If capacity is lacking, a lasting power of attorney can be used; otherwise clinicians may make a decision in the best interests of the patient, and will always try to discuss and come to agreement with family wherever possible.
Shared Decision Making
All of our team are committed to enabling our patients to be directly involved in their care and the decisions around it. During consultations, our clinical team will help involve you in the decisions you need to make by providing you with options and suggestions to help aid your decision making so that you get the best treatment for you.
If you ever feel that you were not involved in the decision making process about your care, please contact our practice manager and we will review this for you and, where necessary, arrange another consultation for you to discuss this further with the clinician of your choice.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding means protecting a citizen's health, wellbeing and human rights — enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. It is an integral part of providing high-quality health care.
Those most in need of protection include:
- Children and young people
- Adults at risk, such as those receiving care in their own home, people with physical, sensory and mental impairments, and those with learning disabilities
We are committed to providing the highest level of safeguarding. Our clinical lead is Dr Mark Wilshere, supported by Carla Smith in this very important role.
Improving Care
We work extremely hard to continually improve our care to patients. Access to care can be difficult beyond the GP surgery. That is why we have developed a number of areas to make sure our patients get the best care they can locally.
In-house phlebotomy services, including ultrasound-guided venipuncture for patients who are difficult to get blood samples from, avoiding delays on referring to hospitals.
In-house ECG analysis — all results are reported by Dr Wilshere and the patient is informed of the result.
Clinicians offering joint injections, providing patients with direct access to this treatment locally.
Mental health practitioners for fast assessments and support for patients with more complex mental health issues.
MIND practitioners for less severe mental health issues, with minimal waiting times for assessment, allowing for rapid support and help.
We also monitor and undertake audits and quality improvement work to make sure our services remain safe and to the highest quality. All patients are welcome to offer their ideas or concerns to our practice manager.
Armed Forces Veteran Friendly Practice
Quayside Medical Practice is proud to be an accredited Armed Forces Veteran Friendly GP Practice. We are committed to ensuring that veterans, reservists, and their families receive the care and support they need, with staff trained to understand the specific health needs of the armed forces community.
